Planning a private sperm donation arrangement involves much more than simply finding the right match. Before conception, donors and future parents need to discuss important topics such as health testing, donation logistics, legal considerations, future expectations, and many other aspects of their agreement to set them up for success.
To make these conversations easier, Y factor created the Shared Match Space - a collaborative planning tool that helps matches organise and document their agreements together. By guiding you through each topic, it makes it easier to stay aligned, keep track of your decisions, avoid misunderstandings, and move forward with confidence.
Unlike a donor conception journey through a fertility clinic, private sperm donation arrangements are usually planned directly between the donor and future parent. While this gives both people greater flexibility and control, it can also feel overwhelming to know what to discuss, when to discuss it, and how to keep track of everything you've agreed.
Every private sperm donation arrangement is different. Some people are planning home insemination, others use fertility clinics, and some choose long-term known donor relationships or co-parenting arrangements.
Whatever your journey looks like, there are many decisions to make together. Health testing, legal advice, compensation, future contact, donation logistics, and expectations all deserve careful discussion.
The Shared Match Space was designed to help donors and future parents keep those conversations organised in one shared place. It is a collaborative planning tool that helps you work through the most important topics together, document your decisions, and track progress of your arrangement.
The Shared Match Space helps you:
Build transparency and reach mutual agreement.
Align on health checks, donation preferences, and practical logistics.
Plan for pregnancy, birth, and future contact.
Document key decisions through a clear request-and-confirm process, so both people have a shared record of what has been agreed.
Whether you're just getting to know each other or preparing for the donation itself, the Shared Match Space provides a shared overview of what has been discussed, what has been agreed, and what still needs attention.
The Shared Match Space is built into your Matches tab, giving you a clear overview of all your matches and where each arrangement stands. It becomes available once you've started a conversation and exchanged at least two messages.

Once unlocked, you can begin planning your donation journey together. The Shared Match space is personalised to you, based on your preferences and previous decisions. It adapts to your choices, showing only the topics that are relevant to your arrangement. Some milestones can even update automatically. For example, completed ID verification can be reflected in the Shared Match Space, while planned calls can be added to your calendar with a single tap.
Every request or agreement must be confirmed by both people before it becomes part of your shared plan, helping ensure you're aligned and reducing the risk of misunderstandings.
The Shared Match Space is available whenever at least one person in the match has a Y factor Plus subscription.
Y factor Plus users can update the match progress with shared agreements and send confirmation requests to their match.
Y factor Explore users can review those requests and either confirm them or propose changes.
This allows both people to actively participate in the planning process while ensuring every agreement is made together.
The Shared Match Space is more than a feature update. It provides a cornerstone in planning a safe donation arrangement and shows a new way for matched users to work through an arrangement together. We hope it makes your planning feel more organised, more collaborative, and easier to manage from start to finish.
